Against the odds
ebu (Bayreuth, Germany) develops mechanical presses and punching machines that are able to produce delicate and precise small metal parts. Key clients are the automotive industry, the fastener business and the watch industry. A family business for over 150 years, ebu belonged to the machine-building group Burkhardt. When Burkhardt heavily suffered from the mix of different activities they were involved in, it was time to cut ebu loose from the mother ship.
Close to a hundred financing partners had made their way to ebu. They were either unable to find a solution or simply scared off by the complexity of the challenge ahead. When Nimbus visited the company, it was close to midnight. ebu was running out of time and the stakes were high. Only three weeks later all legal matters and other details were settled: ebu was carved out.
Nimbus joined the management and took off with tools to support both the management and the company. Project calculation and a new controlling system for the purchasing department were rapidly introduced. At the same time, new sales people with a technical background restored relationships with existing clients that were still impressed by the products but had become shy to order. New clients soon followed. In the first year of its revived status, ebu managed to get above break-even and the outlook is favorable.
