Sencio (Nijmegen, The Netherlands) designs and assembles packaging solutions for micro-electrical-mechanical systems and integrated sensor systems. The final product is usually destined for a long life of trouble-free service in the engine compartment of cars. Although the automotive industry is under pressure, the demand for sensors remains constant. Other industries such as mobile phones and LED lighting use a growing number of heavy-duty sensors in their products.

Sencio wasn’t in any way in trouble. Why did Nimbus come around? Mother company Elmos (Germany) discovered that clients of their subsidiaries were competitors of clients of Sencio. And because the development of a functional package takes two to three years and is done in deep secret, companies feared that eventually, strategic information might be shared with the competition. This lead to a downfall in turnover.

Although Sencio is a relatively small company, it takes quite a bit of time to get it back on the road, partly because of the long development time of the product. Besides, the company depends on big clients in the automotive industry, which, apart from Germany, is suffering. Currently, part of the production of Sencio is about to be based in the Philippines. Expectations are that within seven years, the company will have doubled its sales numbers.
